When my kids first started telling me about “boba tea,” I could not have been less interested. For many reasons.
1) I am a coffee girl. Just call me Lorelai Gilmore. I need my daily dose of caffeine like I need oxygen and sunshine.
2) “Boba” sounded like the type of thing that society would be interested in for five minutes before switching focus to something newer and shinier.
3) Moreover, “boba” did not sound appetizing. It reminded me of a Star Wars character, not a fun drink. Again, if I’m going out for a beverage, why not make it coffee? Or wine? Something I could easily picture in my mind’s eye would be good.
You get the idea. But…
I was wrong about boba.
Yes, coffee is still my go-to drink, but when I want to spice things up, I head over to Anime Cafe in downtown Rogers. Bubble tea and boba shops are popping up everywhere these days, but this one is my favorite.
Anime Cafe is located on 2nd Street and offers an extensive menu (exactly what you want when hunting for a fun drink!).
My favorite is the vanilla with black tea and boba with coffee jelly. The taro flavor is also a big hit in my household, as is the mochi ice cream.
Anime Cafe has such a fun atmosphere, too. In addition to their Japanese snacks, they offer anime merchandise, and their staff members are experts at recommending both new and classic shows.
In other words, if you’re a bubble tea, boba, or anime fan, you have to check this place out. And let me know what your favorite flavors are! I’m always looking for new combinations.
Which is weird because… I honestly didn’t expect to love these drinks as much as I do. I hope they stay in vogue for a long time.
